This is an online course that will require several face to face meetings including an orientation meeting on January 31st which is mandatory - On campus Mid-term exam on March 14th at 2pm and 3 p.m. and, the Final exam: On campus. TBA in May during finals week (check final exam schedule for conflicts), also an optional overnight field trip

Geology 110 Online Meets Core Requirements and more...  

This is an online course that will require several face to face meetings including an orientation meeting which is mandatory, and an in class mid-term, and an on campus final exam.  There is also an optional overnight field trip.

San Diego State University recognizes and accepts this course as part of an articulation agreement. See the Assist Site for help in understanding which courses are recognized by various colleges and universities.   The Assistant Site can help you understand the difference between a course that will transfer and one with an articulation agreement.  Geol111 is a lab and can be taken concurrently or at a later date.

This course will require

  • A computer with internet access (see "computer requirements" for details)
  • Email address, use of the BlackBoard Portal (Virtual Learning Environment ) * Strong organizational skills
  • Mandatory on campus orientation meeting on January 31st at 2p.m for course #7669 and 3p.m. for course #7672, Grossmont College campus. Room 353 Bldg 36.
  • Mandatory Mid-Term Exam: March 14th at 2pm for course #7669 and 3pm for course #7672, on campus at Grossmont,

This course will not require:

  • Regular attendance in class on campus
  • Advanced computer skills
  • A hard copy of the text book (You can instead use an online textbook is available as an option to the standard textbook (be sure you can also get the required CD/GEODe.)
  • A term paper

Prospective students

Prospective students are welcome to explore the website and to visit the BlackBoard portal.  The BlackBoard Portal for this course is open to guests.  If you have an existing BlackBoard account, Grossmont College will automatically enroll you in this class after you have registered.  C'mon in and get started early.  Purchase your book once you are registered for the class, take the math review if you'd like to get started early.  You are also welcome to post your introductory forum post.  Blackboard can be accessed by logging into the BlackBoard Portal and going to "Courses" -  "Geology" - "GEOL 110 - Physical Geology (Marso)"   Even as a guest you will be able to view the current assignments and announcements as they relate to the class in progress now.  If you have questions, comments, or concerns about taking this course: Send email to prof.marso@gomyclass.com

 

Getting started: Logging into BlackBoard

Students enrolled in this course (and those who have emailed the instructor and will 'add' the class at the orientation) are welcome to sign into Blackboard and get started early.  Follow the steps below. (hint: when asked for your 'student ID' that is your "firstnamelastname", your 'pin' is your 6 digit birthdate)  All students enrolled at Grossmont can sign up at BlackBoard.

1) Use your BlackBoard login ID, if you do not have one, you will need to set one up. (Try using your first name and last name with no spaces.)

2) Click on the tab for "My Courses"  Top, left of your screen.

3) You should see " GEOL-110-3175 - PLANET EARTH (2011SP-GEOL-110-7672 or 7669) " as one of your listed courses.

  You are welcome to begin work on the first few Assignments.
