Hi,
I’m Jaime Marso and I’ll be your instructor for Grossmont College’s Geology 110 course <inserted subtitle: “Jaime Marso, Geology 110-Online Professor”>  I’d like to invite you to explore the website here as well as at blackboard portal.  You can see a link to the blackboard portal over on the left.

This course is taught online but there are two required face to face meetings.
The first of which is your orientation meeting.  Which will be held on Grossmont campus.  For details on the time and location please check the syllabus.  <inserted subtitle: “Orientation information: http://geology110.com/orientation.html ”>

The second required meeting will be your final exam.  This will also be held on campus…and the time and date will be posted on your syllabus.

I’d like to also invite you…to…join us on our field trip.
Now our field trip is out to Fossil Canyon.  <images changes to views of students on the field trip to Fossil Canyon from a previous trip> <inserted subtitle: “Fossil Canyon, See: “Course Information” for more details”> and this will give you a great opportunity to not only earn extra credit points for the class…but also to mingle with your fellow geology students and apply all the information you have learned throughout the semester.

Lectures will be provided in real time, and you are required to attend at least 2 of these lectures.   They are held at the same time …umm…every week Monday-Wednesday at 5:30 and they last approximately 85 minutes.

Now this is a new endeavor for Grossmont College and the first time that a course will be offered with real-time live lectures for you to attend.

Geology 110 is a fully accredited course and meets all the requirements for transfer.  The work you’ll be completing is very similar to the work done by the students on campus.

On line courses require a lot of self-guidance and self discipline.   However this does not mean you don’t have someone here to help you out. I will be available through email as well as real time office hours where I can contact you one-on-one.    You also have the discussion board with which you can discuss ideas and questions with your fellow students.  <inserted subtitle: “Questions? Email: jmarso@geology110.com”> I look forward to seeing you…at our first meeting!
